A brand identity and merchandise design project for Coffee Creative, an independently owned coffee shop and neighbourhood gathering place. A hand-drawn logo suite, illustrated pattern and playful T-shirt design were developed to reflect the shop's friendly, colourful personality and its owner's love of coffee and surfing.
Coffee Creative is an independently owned coffee shop with a strong local following. Known for good coffee, homemade cakes, empanadas and toasties, it had become something of a neighbourhood gathering place, particularly through the uncertainty of COVID.
The brand identity needed to feel like the people behind it: friendly, colourful and a little bit playful. Rather than creating something overly polished, the identity embraced freeform shapes and an imperfect, hand-drawn quality. A simple logo design suite became the foundation for an illustrated pattern design featuring coffee plants, which could be carried across stickers, packaging and the shop itself.
The merchandise design gave the identity another opportunity to reflect the personality of the business. A playful illustrated T-shirt design brings together coffee beans, a waterfall, tropical plants and a surfboard, nodding to the owner's love of coffee and surfing while fitting naturally alongside the painted murals and relaxed atmosphere of the shop.
The result is a visual identity that feels like it belongs to the community around it.
